We've got our heads in the cloud

Nu-Designs recently started web hosting services on cloud servers. Cloud hosting is a paradigm shift from traditional hosting services on shared or dedicated servers. It is much like the electricity grid, where web resources are provided on-demand and are scalable as needed. Our new cloud hosting configuration is rendering web pages at least 50% faster, on average, than our current dedicated servers. And as the demand for resources increase so can the hardware (RAM, disk space and CPU cycles). Currently, our cloud servers are configured with 4 quad-core processors (16 total processor cores) and deliver information to the web faster than our traditional hosting servers. We can quickly and easily add additional processors, disk space, and RAM as needed going forward without having to physically install any new hardware which can be a time-consuming, expensive and risky process when dealing with live web apps.

Our cloud server is a virtual machine abstracted from the hardware. We use a software hypervisor with proven performance, reliability, scalability, and security. Our server installation comes with a certain amount of guaranteed CPU power. However, at times when there’s extra CPU power available from the host hardware, we take advantage of it, providing our apps extra processing power without any additional cost.
